Dreamer Spotlight – Deborah Verkerke

Interview with Dreamer, Deborah Verkerke

I am super excited to be able to share the projects and interview I recently had with Deborah! She is a fun lady and her love for Halloween and decorating is fantastic! ~Mike

Where are you from?

Kitchener Ontario, Canada. That’s in the South Central part, about an hour and a half from Niagara/Buffalo boarder.

How did you get into paper crafting?

By mistake, I was looking around Pinterest and saw some beautiful projects. Then I started to investigate more.

Which cutting machine do you own?

I have Cricut Maker that I purchased in November 2017. This is the first time I have ever owned a cutting machine. I purchased it to help cut out squares for making quilts, well that never happened. I discovered working with vinyl first. I learned how to do many projects from YouTube and Pinterest. Somewhere along way I found Dreaming tree.

How long have you been a Dreamer and what was your first project?

The Winterland Castle was my first project and I became hooked, that was in January of 2018.

Out of all of the projects which one is your favorite?

Thats a hard one, I would have to say anything that anything that resembles a building/house/castle. Ones that I can put my own spin on it. I know I can do that with any file, but as soon as I see a file I like my brain starts to fire off ideas. Take the barn, when I first saw it I knew I would be doing a halloween themed barn.

What was your most challenging?

I would say the castle. I have made 5 or 6 of them now but there are still spots where I have to find them in the video to work through them.

How many Dreaming Tree projects do you think you have completed so far?

67 and some of those I have made more than once.

When you think of Dreaming Tree what do you think of?

Quality project files for a low price, easy to follow instructions/videos. Now that I have gotten to know everyone, I would have to say that Dreaming Tree is an easy going friendly business to deal with. They have the best file and best instructions.

What advice would you give a new Dreamer?

Have fun, let your imagination go wild and don’t be afraid, its only paper. The mistakes you make are for your eyes only know one else will notice or see them.

What are your other hobbies or interests?

I love making quilts with my sewing machine. Before that I was into all kinds of crafting including building model railway scenery for N-Size railcars. Then I got out of it for many years. About 4 years ago I got into making quilts. It was a way to occupy my mind after my mother passed.

Is there anything else you would like the Dreamers to know about ?

My favorite holidays are Halloween and Christmas. I am a mother to two daughters and two stepdaughters. I have 3 granddaughters. I love to fish, we went fishing off the shores of St. Kitts and I caught a 35 pound barracuda. It was almost as big as me. (I’m 5’2 inches). I used to make my own dummies to decorate the front of my house for Halloween. Then we had to sell the house, my daughter was diagnosed at age 19 with a brain tumor. I miss doing up Halloween so I do the inside with Lemax and Dreaming Tree. Now we have a trailer in seasonal park and every Aug they have a decorating contest. This year I participated by making some of my dummies, a working cauldron, some spiders and some webs, I took 3rd place.

Below are the photos from Deborah’s other favorite hobbies. Her love for decorating for Halloween and her beautiful quilts!
